Lauren is a painter, potter and sculptor from the Philly/South Jersey. She began painting with acrylic paint before delving into ceramics with a goal of creating functional art. Before pursuing art full-time, Lauren worked in the animal care field. She has always had a great love for animals, and would call that her second greatest passion, right besides art.
Lauren began painting on her own early on in life as a hobby, and began more seriously working on her technique in college. She is a self taught painter and enjoys doing detail work and using as many colors as possible. Lauren first began her pottery journey when she began taking wheel classes in January of 2024. She soon jumped into teaching beginner wheel classes at a local studio before taking the jump into forming her home studio, where she continues to create her whimsical ceramics. Her love for wildlife is shown throughout her art, as she commonly creates mugs with animal sculptures in them. You will also find many character mugs in her portfolio, as another inspiration of hers is animation.
Capy Clay Ceramics is the company that Lauren sells her work under. Capy, as in Capybara, was chosen for her love of animals, especially capybaras and their close relative, guinea pigs. Capybaras tend to spend tons of time rolling around in mud, and these days she finds herself relating to that more than ever. Hence, the name Capy Clay Ceramics came to be.
2025 was the year Capy Clay Ceramics made its market debut, and popped up at art events around the Philly and Jersey areas. Lauren’s ceramics can be found year round and two local artist gift shops; 8th & Ash Collective in Haddon Township, and the Artists Loft in Conshohocken.
